Sophie Amelia

I’m a surface pattern designer for home interior products and accessories. I’m a process-led designer-maker, specialising in screen printing.

Applying an innovative human-centred approach, I explore how design can improve well-being through sensory regulation, particularly for neurodivergent people. My process is influenced by the time I have spent in community workshops and I aim to provoke societal change by creating inclusive sensory design pieces with an adult-focused approach.

Often employing experimental drawing and mark-making techniques, I choose to communicate my ideas through an abstract approach to image-making, using both hand and digital methods to construct compositions.

I always meticulously documents my inspiration, process and creative journey throughout the development of each project. I have a keen eye for creating colour palettes, alongside extensive material and finish exploration and contextual research that all plays a crucial role in communicating the intended tone and mood of my work.

I aspire for my work to have purpose, with characteristics of personal value and longevity. Sustainable material choices and a focus on long-term trends alongside handcrafted approach allow my creation of forward-thinking designs and inventive collections.
